Local artists

Art, part of the room.

Sweetfields has welcomed work by artists from the local community.

Artists at Sweetfields

One wall, many hands.

The wall changes with each artist. Here is who is on it now, and who came before.

On the wall now

Nicholas Sims

Watercolour sketches of Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield.

At Sweetfields Nicholas Sims is showing watercolour sketches of buildings, streets and places around Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield. He trained in Walthamstow, at Chelsea College of Art and at an art college in Ryazan, Russia, and has lived in Birmingham since 2007.

After a degree in Illustration at the University of Wolverhampton he also draws reportage: people in barbershops, at the Bull Ring Market and at live gigs. His work has been shown at the Cheltenham Illustration Awards and Wells Contemporary, with solo exhibitions at the Birmingham and Midland Institute, and he is an artist-in-residence at the Highbury Theatre.

The work is on the walls at Sweetfields now. Come and see it over a coffee.

    Agnieszka Dobrzycka

Painting and drawing shaped by observation, light and colour.

Agnieszka Dobrzycka is a Polish-born artist based in Birmingham. She works across painting and drawing, and her practice is rooted in close observation: of light, colour and form, and of the individual character of whatever sits in front of her. Her subjects range from still life to portraiture.

Paint, draw or make nearby?

Sweetfields hangs work by artists who live and work locally, where people sit and in daylight, and artists and makers run workshops in the room. On the wall now: Nicholas Sims.
